Three Additional Types Including 'Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder'... Up to 50 Million Won

Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Bok-gyu) supports young people serving in the military so that they can focus solely on their national defense duties without worry about accidents during their service.

On the 23rd, Hwasun-gun announced that it will expand the implementation of the ‘Military Service Youth Injury Insurance Support Project.’

Hwasun-gun Expands Support for Injury Insurance for Youth Serving in the Military

The ‘Military Service Youth Injury Insurance’ is a system that provides insurance payments for treatment in case of death, injury, illness, or aftereffects occurring during military service (including leave and outings).

Eligible applicants are young people registered as residents of Hwasun-gun who are currently serving in the military. This includes active-duty soldiers, full-time reservists, conscripted police officers, and conscripted firefighters under the Military Service Act. Professional soldiers, police officers, firefighters, and social service agents who are already insured under institutionalized insurance are excluded.

The insurance coverage period is one year from May 1, 2024, to April 30, 2025. Enrollment is automatic upon enlistment without a separate application process and is automatically terminated upon discharge.

The coverage items include ▲death and aftereffects from injury or illness (KRW 50 million) ▲injury hospitalization (KRW 50,000 per day) ▲illness hospitalization (KRW 30,000 per day) ▲fracture and burn diagnosis (KRW 300,000) ▲stroke and acute myocardial infarction diagnosis (KRW 3 million) ▲surgery costs (KRW 100,000) ▲injury costs from violent crimes (KRW 3 million) totaling 12 types, plus ▲post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) diagnosis (KRW 1 million) ▲specific traumatic brain injury diagnosis (KRW 1 million) ▲traumatic amputation diagnosis (KRW 1 million), making a total of 15 types. Overlapping compensation with other insurance is possible.

Insurance claims must be submitted to NH Nonghyup Property & Casualty Insurance within three years from the date of the accident.

A Hwasun-gun official stated, “We carefully considered adding three coverage items, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) diagnosis fees, so that young people serving in the military can fulfill their national defense duties with peace of mind,” and added, “We will continue to promote various policies to improve youth welfare.”
