"100 Million Won Support for Childbirth and Childcare Costs"... Government Conducts Nationwide Public Survey

Listening to Public Opinions on Solving the Low Birthrate Issue

The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission announced on the 23rd that it will conduct a public survey until the 26th on the '100 million KRW support plan for childbirth and child-rearing expenses' to address the low birthrate issue.

This survey will be conducted on the online public communication platform, the 국민생각함 (Gukmin Saenggakham) website. The survey includes questions such as whether directly providing 100 million KRW in childbirth and child-rearing support, as seen in recent private sector support cases, serves as motivation for childbirth; whether respondents agree with the financial investment involved; and opinions on utilizing other similar-purpose budgets to provide childbirth and child-rearing support funds.

An official from the Commission stated, “The total fertility rate in 2023 recorded an all-time low of 0.72, and forecasts for this year suggest it will remain in the 0.6 range, leading to criticism that the policies implemented to overcome the low birthrate have had limited effect. Through this survey, it is necessary to verify whether direct support to beneficiaries is effective. We ask for the public’s interest and active participation.”
