Ahn Cheol-soo: "Yoon Must Directly Overcome Special Prosecutor Law on Chae Sang-byeong and Kim Geon-hui"

"National Policy Direction Must Change to Be Felt by the People"

People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo emphasized that President Yoon Suk-yeol "should now hold a formal press conference" and "must face difficult questions head-on, including those about the special investigation laws concerning Chae Sang-byeong and First Lady Kim Geon-hee."

On the 23rd, during SBS Radio's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show,' Ahn was asked, "If President Yoon holds a press conference, should he face difficult questions head-on, such as those about former People Power Party Emergency Response Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon and the special investigation laws concerning Chae Sang-byeong and First Lady Kim Geon-hee?" He replied, "Yes," adding, "Being honest is the most effective way and the best method to reach the hearts of the people."

President Yoon announced the appointment of his Chief of Staff directly in front of reporters the day before. It was the first time in one year and five months since last November that President Yoon took questions in a press conference format, following the suspension of doorstepping (brief Q&A on the way to work). Regarding this, Ahn said, "Although it cannot be considered a full press conference, it was good to see him sincerely answering reporters' questions after a long time," and added, "Now is the time to hold a formal press conference."

He continued, "He should express his reflections on past experiences and mistakes, and also present a blueprint for how he plans to run the government going forward," emphasizing, "How to solve current livelihood issues and present a future vision to give hope to the people?these are the most important tasks the government must undertake."

Regarding recent media reports that President Yoon told his aides he would become a "political president," Ahn said, "At first, I didn't understand it," but added, "Because the president is inherently a political figure." Ahn further explained, "It seems he now intends to become a president who cooperates with the opposition party and engage in politics properly. I hope these intentions translate into a change in government policy that the public can feel," and expressed his expectations, saying, "Receiving and answering reporters' questions directly in a brief format the day before can be seen as a start."
