A man in his 20s killed 76 cats claiming they scratched his car... Even the judge says "We must remind the value of life"

A man in his 20s who brutally killed dozens of cats because they scratched his car was sentenced to prison.

On the 22nd, Judge Jung Yuntaek of the Changwon District Court Criminal Division 1 announced that he sentenced a man in his 20s, identified as A, to 1 year and 2 months in prison for violating the Animal Protection Act. A is accused of cruelly killing 76 cats over 54 separate incidents spanning 10 months from December 2022 to September last year in locations including Gimhae, Busan, Seongju in Gyeongbuk, Daegu, and Yongin in Gyeonggi Province.

Investigations revealed that A strangled between one and up to four cats at a time or used weapons to kill them brutally. The court stated, "The defendant cruelly killed cats after acquiring them from cat adoption sites, citing reasons such as stray cats scratching his parked vehicle." The court added, "To emphasize the importance of life, it is inevitable to impose custodial treatment." Furthermore, the court explained the sentencing rationale, saying, "However, considering that this is the defendant's first offense with no prior criminal record and his remorse, the sentence was determined accordingly."
