Seongnam City, 'Cheonggyesan Azalea Festival' on the 27th

Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will hold the ‘Azalea Festival’ on the 27th at the old Gol Village area at the foot of Cheonggyesan Mountain (270 Sangjeok-dong, Sujeong-gu).

The festival, organized by the Cheonggyesan Azalea Festival Promotion Committee to widely promote azaleas, the city flower of Seongnam, and to revitalize the old Gol Village commercial district, is being held for the 18th year this year.

On the day of the festival, about 1,000 participants including local residents and hikers will enjoy ▲ Samulnori performances ▲ invited singer performances such as Kim Beom-ryong ▲ folk song and drum performances from the residents’ autonomy center programs. The Seongnam Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organizations will also hold a mini concert.

A food market will be set up around the event site, and various events such as a photo zone themed on azaleas, caricatures, face painting, roulette spinning, and prize draws will be held.

Seongnam City will also operate a social welfare counseling booth to identify welfare blind spots.

A Seongnam City official said, "The old Gol Village at the foot of Cheonggyesan Mountain, where the event is held, has many hikers and forms a commercial district with many restaurants such as jeon houses, dubut houses, and makgeolli houses," adding, "We decided to hold the event at the peak of the azaleas so that citizens, hikers, and merchants can all enjoy the festival in the middle of spring."

Seongnam City’s city flower, the azalea, is a deciduous shrub belonging to the Rhododendron family, and its five petals symbolize the harmonious development of economy, society, culture, education, and welfare.
