Samsung SDI Showcases 'All-Solid-State Battery & 9-Minute Charging' Innovative Technologies at EVS37

Samsung SDI will showcase a range of innovative battery technologies that will lead the electric vehicle market, including all-solid-state batteries mass-produced in 2027, ultra-fast charging in 9 minutes, and ultra-long lifespan exceeding 20 years.

Samsung SDI announced on the 23rd that it will participate in the '37th World Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition (EVS37)' held for four days from the 23rd at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, introducing future electric vehicle battery technologies to global scholars.

This year marks Samsung SDI's second participation since 2015, doubling the scale compared to the previous exhibition. In particular, the all-solid-state battery will be prominently featured at the front of the booth, revealing its proprietary anode-free technology and industry-leading energy density (900Wh/L) among other key features. The company aims to solidify its leadership in all-solid-state batteries through its mass production roadmap.

Samsung SDI will also unveil ultra-fast charging and ultra-long lifespan technologies, considered core technologies for the popularization of electric vehicles. The company plans to develop ultra-fast charging technology capable of charging up to 80% in 9 minutes by 2026, and ultra-long lifespan battery technology usable for 20 years by 2029, leading a swift transition to the electric vehicle era.

Regarding the 'thermal runaway phenomenon,' one of the main themes of this year's event, Samsung SDI will introduce a thermal diffusion prevention solution. This technology quickly vents high heat and gas generated from shocks or fires through the vent of prismatic batteries, minimizing heat propagation between batteries.

Additionally, new product lineups such as 46-pi and battery technologies like Cell-to-Pack (CTP), which increase energy density while reducing costs, will also be showcased.

One section of the booth will display Samsung SDI's ESG management efforts. Visitors can learn about Samsung SDI's initiatives, including the carbon footprint certification?the first in the secondary battery industry?and the RE100 implementation plan. Samsung SDI has maintained the highest number of inclusions in the DJSI (Dow Jones Sustainability Index) in Korea with 19 consecutive years and received the carbon footprint certification from the UK Carbon Trust in June last year, the first in the secondary battery industry.

Choi Yoon-ho, CEO of Samsung SDI, said, "Efforts to secure core future battery technologies such as all-solid-state batteries, ultra-fast charging, and ultra-long lifespan characteristics are progressing smoothly," adding, "Based on our superior technology, we will lead the global electric vehicle market in the future."
