Busan Gijang-gun Completes Nightscape Planning Service

Laying the Foundation for the "City Beautiful at Night"

Busan Gijang-gun recently completed the 'Gijang-gun Nightscape Plan Establishment' project, laying the foundation for systematic management of the local nightscape and the discovery of nightscape attractions.

This nightscape plan establishment project was promoted to preserve the region's excellent nightscape by securing unified guidelines for nightscape and establishing a landscape improvement plan, as well as to improve and maintain damaged nightscapes and create a nightscape specialized for Gijang-gun.

Starting from the project launch in June 2022, the process included ▲status and basic surveys ▲collection of opinions from residents and others (surveys) ▲preparation of a basic concept plan ▲holding public hearings ▲hearing opinions from the county council and review by the landscape committee. The related project has now been completed, and the nightscape plan is scheduled to be announced by the end of April.

The nightscape plan includes ▲specialization of light structure (by zone, type, and element) ▲standards for preventing light pollution and glare ▲management standards for lighting equipment. Based on these, it also includes ▲effective landscape improvement plans ▲discovery of nightscape attractions and basic concept plans ▲plans for revitalizing tourism at nightscape attractions.

The county plans to systematically manage Gijang-gun’s nightscape and light environment by utilizing the improvement plans (guidelines, checklists, etc.) prepared through this project in the approval and review processes for various buildings and facilities.

In particular, the concept plan for discovering and promoting nightscape attractions will be used as basic data for promoting nightscape attraction projects by region, and is expected to drive a groundbreaking development of the entire county’s nightscape.

County Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “This project has laid the cornerstone not only for establishing systematic guidelines for nightscape but also for creating unique night attractions exclusive to Gijang-gun,” adding, “We will do our best to create a beautiful night in Gijang-gun and to discover night tourism attractions within the region.”
