"Improving Awareness and Boosting Rehabilitation Motivation" ... Changwon Special City Holds Disability Day Commemoration Ceremony

Over 1,000 Participants Including People with Disabilities, Families, and Volunteers

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held the 44th Disabled Persons Day commemorative ceremony on the 22nd at the Changwon Convention Center Convention Hall.


Disabled Persons Day is designated as a legal commemorative day on April 20th to improve public awareness of people with disabilities and to promote their rehabilitation motivation.

The ceremony was hosted by the Changwon Disabled Persons Federation, with about 1,000 attendees including Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, people with disabilities and their families, workers at disability facilities, volunteers, and citizens.


The commemorative event, under the theme "The Path Together, The Path Toward Equality," featured a pre-ceremony performance by a disabled persons' Nanta team and the Deobureo Ensemble, followed by the reading of the Disabled Persons Human Rights Charter, awards for meritorious persons, commemorative speeches, congratulatory speeches, and celebratory performances.


Mayor Hong said, "On the occasion of Disabled Persons Day, I hope this will be a valuable opportunity to expand mutual understanding between people with and without disabilities. Changwon Special City will also do its best to embrace the lives of people with disabilities more deeply and thoroughly through tailored services closely connected to real life via inclusive welfare, so that each individual can feel tangible changes."


Meanwhile, Changwon Special City is promoting various events during the Disabled Persons Day commemorative week in April until the 26th, including a special exhibition for Disabled Persons Day, Dream Village events with the local community, community film screenings, free vehicle inspections for people with disabilities, and street campaigns to improve awareness of disabilities.
