Participation in Uploading Plogging Records on Online Platform 'Moa' for One Month Starting 22nd
Goal to Achieve 5,000 Environmental Cleanup Certifications, Meal Sponsorship for Two Local Homeless Shelters
Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) will hold a month-long “Plogging Challenge” with citizens starting from the 22nd.
Marking the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Seoul subway, the event aims for citizens and employees to unite in practicing eco-friendly activities in daily life and contribute to the local community.
Plogging is a volunteer activity combining the Swedish words “plocka upp” (to pick up) and “jogga” (to jog), meaning picking up trash while walking or jogging. It is a small practice that protects the environment while maintaining health through exercise.
Anyone, including citizens and employees, can participate in this challenge. Those interested can join the Seoul Volunteer Center’s online platform “Moa” and freely upload their plogging achievements such as trash collection.
The event runs until May 21, but it may end early if the target of 5,000 cases is reached. The maximum number of certifications per person is limited to three per day.
On “Moa,” select the “Plogging Challenge with Seoul Metro” from the list of challenges.
The company plans to donate sponsorship funds to two homeless shelters in the local community along with achieving environmental cleanup certification results. The funds will be used to support meals for the homeless.
Additionally, to celebrate its founding anniversary, the company plans to carry out a “Sharing Love Bread” baking volunteer activity on May 11, involving employees and their families. At two Korean Red Cross bread sharing centers, employees and their families will bake bread themselves with the help of baking experts and provide it to neighbors in the community who are in difficult circumstances.
Every year, the company commemorates its founding day (May 31) by operating a volunteer week and has practiced various sharing activities for the local community, such as supporting partnered welfare facilities during the year-end and New Year holidays.
Baek Ho, President of Seoul Metro, said, “This plogging event has special meaning as it is a challenge achieved together by citizens and employees under a common goal to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the subway opening. Going forward, we will lead the spread of ESG culture by carrying out diverse and continuous social contribution activities, including environmental cleanup, helping sister rural villages with labor, and supporting educational welfare projects for children from low-income families.”
