Jeju Coast Guard Conducts On-Site Inspections in Marine Accident Areas and Other Locations

Jeju Maritime Police Station (Chief So Byung-yong) announced on the 22nd that it will conduct on-site security inspections to check dangerous areas with frequent grounding accidents, as well as improvements such as better treatment of on-site police officers and modernization of equipment, due to the increased risk of maritime accidents during the warming weather and agricultural fog season.

So Byung-yong, Chief of Jeju Maritime Police Station, recently visited Hallim Police Substation to inspect the accident response readiness of the rescue base police substation, encouraged education and training to improve the efficiency of rescue operations and emergency response, and praised the staff for their hard work to boost morale.

The "rescue base police substation" refers to a police substation operated by the Jeju Maritime Police rescue team, where diving rescue personnel are deployed to police substations located relatively far from the rescue team but responsible for accident-prone maritime areas, enabling rapid initial response to rescue situations.

Additionally, on the afternoon of the previous day, Chief So boarded a 500-ton patrol vessel to inspect the northern to western maritime areas of Jeju. The main agenda included ▲ identifying high-risk areas for maritime accidents such as vessel groundings and collisions during the agricultural fog season ▲ inspecting areas densely populated with fishing boats and leisure equipment ▲ checking patrol boats and small boats, and verifying emergency response readiness and training implementation.

On the afternoon of the 23rd, he plans to visit the Jeju Maritime Police rescue team office to provide education on sharing underwater search situation information and listen to field opinions, followed by an on-site security inspection of the Chuja Police Substation.

Chief So Byung-yong emphasized that swift and thorough initial response at frontline police substations is the most reliable way to protect the property and lives of the public and create a sea where citizens can feel safe, highlighting the importance of the frontline substations’ roles accordingly.

The Jeju Maritime Police will continue to conduct relentless on-site inspections from various locations and perspectives to ensure the safety of Jeju’s seas, and communication with the field will be maintained to prevent accidents and establish a better response system.

A Jeju Maritime Police official stated, “We will do our best to prevent safety accidents so that the public can enjoy the Jeju sea with peace of mind before the peak summer season arrives.”
