The metropolitan bus seat reservation system allows passengers to reserve their boarding time and stop in advance through smartphone applications (Miri, DIGILOCA) before boarding. This system is implemented to alleviate the inconvenience faced by citizens who have difficulty boarding buses due to the rush of passengers during commuting hours.
The routes where the seat reservation system will be expanded include routes 1241, 1550, 1570, and 5006 heading toward Gangnam Station, and route M4101 heading toward Seoul Station during the morning rush hours from 6 to 8 a.m. The fare remains the same as the existing metropolitan bus fare.
Accordingly, the number of metropolitan bus routes between Yongin and Seoul applying the seat reservation system has increased from nine to fourteen.
Additionally, the city will launch a pilot project next month to operate express metropolitan buses that stop only at major stops with high passenger volume. The target routes are four metropolitan buses, routes '5001-1' and '5600', traveling from Myongji University to Gangnam Station during commuting hours.
The city explained that through consultations with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Metropolitan Transportation Committee, they requested additional route capacity to resolve the inconvenience experienced by citizens who had difficulty boarding buses just before entering the highway, achieving this outcome.
A city official said, "Although it was difficult to board metropolitan buses at stops near the highway entrance, the expansion of the seat reservation system will reduce commuting inconveniences for citizens," adding, "We will continue to strive to create convenient boarding conditions for metropolitan buses."
