LGU+ Successfully Demonstrates Core Open RAN Technology with Qualcomm... "Future Growth Engine"

Demonstration of Base Station Intelligent Controller (RIC) Solution
Managing Traffic Situations with AI... Improving Base Station Performance

LG Uplus announced on the 22nd that it has successfully demonstrated core technology of Open RAN (Open Radio Access Network) in collaboration with Qualcomm.

Open RAN, which is gaining attention as a next-generation technology, separates hardware and software, allowing the combination of standard equipment supplied by different communication equipment manufacturers.

The 'Radio Intelligent Controller (RIC)' solution successfully demonstrated this time is evaluated to be effective in providing customized services such as large-scale traffic management and network slicing.

By utilizing artificial intelligence (AI), it detects traffic situations occurring in real time and automatically calculates optimized parameters, enabling performance without additional intervention from operators.

LG Uplus also confirmed that performance improvement tasks for base stations, which traditionally required assistance from equipment suppliers in conventional radio access networks, can be directly performed by the carrier using RIC.

It is expected that this can be used as a foundation to create future business opportunities for domestic small and medium software suppliers.

Lee Sangheon, Head of Network Advanced Development at LG Uplus, said, "We hope this will become a milestone in establishing a new base station software ecosystem in Korea and providing differentiated customer value."
