SK Chemicals Participates in Chinaplas... Showcases World's First Commercialized 'Circular Recycling'

Cosmetic Containers and Water Bottles Using Sustainable Materials
President Ahn Jae-hyun: "We Will Become a Leading Company Driving the Circular Economy"

SK Chemicals announced on the 22nd that it will participate in 'Chinaplas 2024,' held from the 23rd to the 26th at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, China.

Chinaplas is considered one of the world's top three chemical industry exhibitions alongside the NPE in the United States and the K show in Germany. This year, about 4,000 companies from over 150 countries are expected to participate in the exhibition.

At this exhibition, SK Chemicals will showcase its unique chemical recycling method, the 'Circular recycle TM' solution. SK Chemicals' circular recycling is the world's first commercialized chemical recycling technology and has attracted significant attention from industry insiders.

Circular recycling chemically breaks down waste plastics to the molecular level and then reuses them as plastic raw materials, unlike physical recycling, which shreds and washes waste plastics before reusing them as raw materials. This process allows infinite recycling without quality degradation, such as loss of transparency. Using SK Chemicals' circular recycling solution, various forms of waste plastics, including transparent bottles, films, and trays, can be recycled.

SK Chemicals has designed its exhibition booth to allow visitors to see at a glance how waste plastics generated in cities are reborn as recycled raw materials through SK Chemicals' circular recycling technology, and how these raw materials are transformed into various products again.

Through circular recycling technology, SK Chemicals has succeeded in vertical integration from monomers to polyester (PET) and copolyester, showcasing a broad portfolio of circular recycling products.

SK Chemicals will exhibit products already commercialized using sustainable materials.

It will introduce global brand products in cosmetics, home appliances, and daily necessities made with 'ECOTRIA CR.' ECOTRIA CR uses 50% of raw materials decomposed by chemical recycling technology while maintaining the inherent transparency, appearance, and chemical resistance functionalities of copolyester.

Final products commercializing actual circular recycling materials will also be showcased at the exhibition, such as tire cords using SkyPET CR?the first domestically applied chemical recycling PET?and Jeju Samdasoo RE:Born, the bottled water industry’s first product applying chemically recycled PET materials.

Additionally, the exhibition will feature bio-based materials such as Ecotrion, made from industrial starch used in spandex, synthetic leather, and urethane elastic materials; Ecozen, a high-heat resistant copolyester mixed with substances extracted from biomass like corn; and SkyGreen, a material mainly used for cosmetics, food packaging containers, and home appliances, known for its transparency and chemical resistance.

Jae-Hyun Ahn, CEO of SK Chemicals, said, "Chinaplas will be an important milestone to introduce SK Chemicals' unique circular recycling solutions to the world. We will use this exhibition as an opportunity to further promote the necessity, advantages, and competitiveness of circular recycling to the industry and brand owners, establishing ourselves as a leading company driving the circular economy."
