Yongin City to Introduce 'Tourism-type DRT' Connecting Folk Village and Giheung Station in Second Half of Year

Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Selected for 'Regional Tourism Transportation Improvement Project'
Passengers Can Board at Desired Time and Location

Starting from the second half of this year, 'Demand-Responsive Transport (DRT)' connecting tourist attractions such as Korean Folk Village in the Yongin area of Gyeonggi Province and major transportation hubs like Giheung Station will be introduced.

On the 22nd, Yongin City announced that it had been selected for the '2024 Regional Tourism Transportation Improvement Project' hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, securing 345 million KRW in national funding. The city will invest a total of 690 million KRW in the project by adding 345 million KRW from the city budget to the national subsidy, introducing a 'tourism-type DRT' that links major local tourist sites such as Korean Folk Village with transportation hubs like Giheung Station and Sanggal Station.

'DRT' is a public transportation service that allows users to call a vehicle using a mobile application. It operates flexibly on routes and stops, enabling passengers to board at their desired time and location.

To promote the tourism-type DRT being introduced this time, the city plans to provide English information on operating areas, tourist site introductions, event details, as well as information on the 'Korea Tourism Organization 1330 Tourist Interpretation Service.'

The city will initially start the project connecting Giheung Station with Folk Village and Everland, then expand the range of connections between hubs and tourist sites in the future, while also increasing the number of advanced mobility vehicles. To this end, the city will establish detailed operational plans such as vehicle operating times, number of vehicles, and stop selections through three months of consulting with the Korea Tourism Organization, and begin vehicle operations from the second half of the year.

In particular, the city plans to optimize the operating area between local tourist sites and transportation hubs to reduce users' waiting times and establish a convenient transfer system.

A city official said, "Through this project, we will enhance accessibility and satisfaction by connecting high-quality local tourist sites with transportation means. We will introduce future-oriented advanced mobility transportation to tourism to secure diversity in transportation options and expand the utilization of tourism resources."
