Operating various programs such as one-day classes and companion plant clinics
Training village gardeners and garden photographers responsible for creating community gardens
Continuously striving to promote resident-participatory green culture and support healthy leisure activities
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will establish a 'Garden Support Center' to spread Yeongdeungpo's distinctive garden culture and provide a communication space for local residents, with the center set to open in May.
Recently, interest in companion plants has increased, leading to more people growing and caring for plants at home. In response, the district is creating the Garden Support Center to promote garden culture, offering various experience programs themed around plants and gardens to support healthy leisure activities for residents.
The Yeongdeungpo-gu Garden Support Center is located in Yeongdeungpo Park and the Mullae-dong Friendly Garden, providing a variety of programs related to plants and gardens.
First, the 'Village Gardener Training Program' allows participants to learn comprehensive topics about gardens, including garden plants and pest management. After completing the program, participants will serve as village gardeners at designated bases.
Additionally, the 'Living Area Companion Plant Clinic' offers diagnosis and consultation services for plants with poor growth.
At the one-day classes held twice a week, participants can create 'My Own Garden,' and through the 'Garden Photographer Training Program,' they receive theoretical and practical education on plant photography, along with opportunities to exhibit their photos.
Starting with the 'Yeongdeungpo Park Garden Support Center Opening Event' on May 1, residents will be able to freely use the two Garden Support Centers. Each program will be available for registration from April 22 through the Seoul Public Reservation System. For more details, please visit the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office website or contact the Green City Division.
Furthermore, the district operates village-based garden management volunteer activities, community garden creation, and a forest experience center for young children to spread participatory garden leisure culture. It is also promoting the creation of specialized gardens unique to Yeongdeungpo-gu.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, "With the opening of the Garden Support Center, we look forward to the future of Yeongdeungpo as a city of flowers created together with residents." He added, "Various spaces and programs where people can directly see and learn about plants and gardens have been prepared, so we encourage many residents to visit."
