Jung-gu, Seoul has established a smart enforcement system at two electric vehicle charging stations to impose fines on vehicles illegally parked at the charging stations.
On March 22, the district installed CCTV and vehicle detection devices at two locations where complaints are frequently raised: Samsung Headquarters (73 Sejong-daero) and Alliance Fran?aise (63-2 Hoehyeon-dong 1-ga).
The smart enforcement system transmits video footage around the charging station to a server when vehicle entry is detected. If a vehicle is parked without charging, a warning is issued via a flashing light and broadcast that a fine may be imposed.
Until April 12, the district conducted a pilot operation of the system, checking and adjusting factors such as license plate recognition and the appropriate angle for installing enforcement equipment.
From now on, vehicles caught obstructing charging at stations equipped with the enforcement system will be fined 100,000 KRW.
A district official stated, “With the installation of this system, we expect a reduction in charging obstructions and more convenient charging for electric vehicles,” adding, “It will also have the effect of increasing the district’s non-tax revenue.”
