Biden Closely Chases in Polls

Former President Donald Trump, who is running in the upcoming U.S. presidential election this November, spent $4 million (approximately 5.5 billion KRW) on legal fees and other expenses last month alone due to various civil and criminal trials. While Trump struggles financially due to judicial risks, President Joe Biden has secured campaign funds twice as large, ensuring ample resources for his election campaign.

Trump Spent 5.5 Billion Won on Trial Costs Last Month... 180 Million Won Per Day

On the 21st (local time), U.S. media including The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported, citing election expense data submitted by the Trump campaign to the Federal Election Commission (FEC), that former President Trump spent $4 million on legal fees last month. This amounts to about 180 million KRW per day on average.

The total amount Trump has spent on legal fees since early last year is estimated to be $66 million (approximately 91 billion KRW). Currently, Trump is facing trials not only for civil lawsuits but also for four criminal cases. Among these, the criminal trial related to allegations of paying hush money to cover up a sexual scandal just before the 2016 presidential election and falsifying company records related to those payments officially began on the 15th.

The Trump campaign explained that the expenses were not only for Trump's lawsuits but also covered various other areas.

As of the end of March, the funds held by the Trump campaign, the Republican National Committee, and fundraising organizations totaled $97.2 million (approximately 134 billion KRW). In contrast, President Biden holds $193 million (approximately 266.1 billion KRW), securing more than twice the campaign funds of former President Trump.

President Biden is dominating Trump in fundraising while also significantly narrowing the gap in approval ratings, creating a tight race.

According to a poll conducted by NBC News from the 12th to the 16th among 1,000 voters, in a hypothetical one-on-one matchup between the two former and current presidents, Trump received 46% support while Biden received 44%. In January, Biden trailed Trump by 5 percentage points, but this time the gap narrowed to 2 percentage points. In a multi-candidate hypothetical race including independent candidates like Robert Kennedy Jr., Biden led with 39% support compared to Trump's 37%.
