"If Medical Students Participate in Class, Public Apology Required"…Strict Response to Overstepped Collective Actions

The government announced plans to take strict action against the coercion of medical students to participate in collective class boycotts.

On the 21st, the Ministry of Education explained that a case of coercion to participate in collective action by medical students was confirmed, and an investigation was requested from the police on the 18th.

According to the Ministry of Education, at a medical school in the Seoul metropolitan area, a group named 'Medical School TF' demanded that medical students continue to collectively refuse classes regardless of class resumption.

It was confirmed that if students broke the collective action pledge and attended classes, they would be required to publicly apologize face-to-face to all grades and be denied access to learning materials and so-called 'jokbo' (exam question banks).

Additionally, students who attended classes were required to publicly apologize face-to-face to all grades. The Medical School TF demanded attendance verification not only for face-to-face lectures and clinical practice but also for online classes.

The Ministry of Education stated, "Acts infringing on the right to learn must never be tolerated," and added, "We plan to respond strictly based on law and principles according to the investigation results."
