Next Executive Committee Vacancy Again... 5·18 Injured Veterans Association Regular General Meeting Canceled

At the Injured Veterans Association's general meeting, only 14 members, including 6 directors and 2 branch chiefs who are ex officio members and delegates, attended out of a total of 166 central association members, resulting in the meeting being canceled due to insufficient quorum.

The election for the vacant positions of the 5·18 Injured Veterans Association president, next vice president, and directors was scheduled to take place at this meeting.

According to the association's internal regulations, more than half of the general meeting members must attend for the meeting to proceed, but more than half of the members were absent.

Additionally, the regular general meeting scheduled for the 2nd of last month was postponed as 78 out of 156 members did not attend.

Some opinions suggest that many delegates who wish for the normalization of the 5·18 Minju Movement Injured Veterans Association have united their intentions regarding this matter.

Previously, former president Hwang Ilbong of the 5·18 Minju Movement Injured Veterans Association claimed that before the organization became a legal entity, a former executive named Lee had been acting as a key figure within the organization, giving separate instructions to the association’s staff and issuing unfair orders to him, which prevented proper approval of administrative documents. He also alleged embezzlement related to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs support projects, which caused the association to split into two factions and intensified internal conflicts.

Eventually, former president Hwang Ilbong was suspended from his position by the disciplinary committee for neglect of duty and abuse of authority, but he formed an emergency countermeasure committee for the 5·18 Minju Movement Injured Veterans Association, and the conflict is still ongoing.

A representative of the 5·18 Minju Movement Injured Veterans Association stated, "We will hold a regular general meeting on May 4th to promptly fill the vacant president and executive positions and work towards normalizing the organization."
