Democratic Party Appoints New Secretary-General Kim Yoon-duk and Policy Committee Chair Jin Sung-jun

The Democratic Party of Korea announced on the 21st that it has appointed Representative Kim Yoon-duk as the successor to former Secretary-General Cho Jung-sik, and Representative Jin Sung-jun as the Chair of the Policy Committee.


Spokesperson Han Min-soo held a briefing at the National Assembly Communication Office in the afternoon and stated, "Representative Lee Jae-myung has carried out a major party position reshuffle today."


Specifically, Representative Kang Deuk-gu was appointed as Senior Deputy Secretary-General, Hwang Myung-sun as Deputy Secretary-General of Organization Affairs, Park Ji-hye as Deputy Secretary-General of Digital Strategy, Representative Min Byung-duk as Senior Vice Chair of the Policy Committee, and Han Woong-hyun as Chair of the Public Relations Committee, succeeding the current chair.


Additionally, Choi Min-hee was appointed as Chair of the Public Communication Committee, Park Hae-cheol as Chair of the External Cooperation Committee, Park Gyun-taek and Lee Yong-woo as Chairs of the Legal Committee, Kim Woo-young as Director of Political Coordination Office for the Party Leader, Representative Park Sung-joon as Senior Spokesperson, Han Min-soo and Hwang Jeong-ah as Spokespersons, Choi Min-seok as Youth Spokesperson, and Representative Kim Jeong-ho as Director of the Education and Training Institute.

Lee Han-joo, former director of the Gyeonggi Research Institute, was appointed as Director of the Democratic Research Institute, Representative Min Hyung-bae as Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, and Representative Cheon Jun-ho as Chief Secretary to the Party Leader.


Spokesperson Han said right after the briefing, "With former Secretary-General Cho and other political appointees collectively submitting their resignations, the party positions have been reorganized accordingly," adding, "This signifies forming momentum to pursue reform tasks reflecting the public sentiment from the April 10 general election and providing opportunities to emerging figures."


He continued, "This reshuffle reflects Representative Lee’s determination to vigorously push forward the reform agenda revealed by the general election public sentiment as the ruling party, without wasting a moment during his remaining term."


Regarding the appointment of Kim Woo-young, who was elected as a candidate from Seoul Eunpyeong-eul after serving as Chair of the Gangwon Provincial Party Committee during the general election, as Director of the Political Coordination Office for the Party Leader, Spokesperson Han dismissed any controversy, saying, "There is no controversy."
