Daegu City Council Enters Temporary Session
26 Agenda Items and Supplementary Budget Review
The Daegu Metropolitan Council (Chairman Lee Mankyu) will hold the 308th extraordinary session for 11 days from the 22nd to May 2nd, starting legislative activities with the review of 26 agenda items including the 2024 Daegu City 1st supplementary budget proposal and ordinance proposals, as well as on-site visits.
During this session, the Daegu Metropolitan Council will review a total of 26 agenda items, including 2 budget proposals, 19 ordinance proposals for enactment or revision, and 5 consent proposals.
The ordinance proposals scheduled for review include various bills proposed by council members in diverse fields, such as the Daegu City Ordinance for Improving Integrity (Park Soyoung, Dong-gu 2), Partial Amendment to the Daegu City Ordinance on Prevention of Secondhand Smoke Damage (Kim Taewoo, Suseong-gu 5), Daegu City Ordinance on Activation of Forest Education (Lee Taeson, Dalseo-gu 4), Daegu City Basic Food Ordinance (Ha Byungmoon, Buk-gu 4), Partial Amendment to the Daegu City Urban Planning Ordinance (Jo Kyunggu, Suseong-gu 2), Partial Amendment to the Daegu City Ordinance on Reduction of Traffic Inducement Charges (Kim Jiman, Buk-gu 2), Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education Ordinance Supporting Cultural and Artistic Activities for Students with Disabilities (Lee Jaehwa, Seo-gu 2), and Full Amendment to the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education Ordinance for Promotion of Multicultural Education (Lee Youngae, Dalseo-gu 1).
The 1st plenary session will be held at 10 a.m. on the 22nd, where after the opening ceremony, various agenda items for the operation of the session will be resolved. The 2nd plenary session will be held at 10 a.m. on the 23rd.
During the 2nd plenary session, there will be city administration questions regarding the widespread illegality and arrogance revealed in the consolidation process of the ‘Daegu Convention Bureau’ (Yuk Jungmi, Democratic Party, proportional representation), a call to halt the ‘Park Chung-hee Memorial Project’ in Daegu (Yuk Jungmi, Democratic Party, proportional representation), and two 5-minute free speeches including “Let’s Grow Daegu’s Future with the Data Industry” (Ha Byungmoon, Buk-gu 4) and a request to re-designate the unconnected road section between Seongdang Driving School and Gamsam Woobang Dream City as an urban planning facility (Yoon Gwongeun, Dalseo-gu 5).
From the 24th to May 1st, each standing committee will review agenda items and visit various sites to directly hear the voices of citizens and the field, thoroughly examining the progress of city administration.
On the 30th, the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts (Chair Lee Jaesook) will convene to review the ‘2024 Daegu Metropolitan City 1st Supplementary Budget Proposal and Fund Operation Plan Amendment’.
This 1st supplementary budget proposal was prepared and submitted with a total of 11.1109 trillion KRW, an increase of 4.95% (523.7 billion KRW) from the original budget of 10.5872 trillion KRW. The Budget and Accounts Committee plans to thoroughly verify whether the budget has been appropriately allocated to necessary areas, focusing on the major increased sectors such as health and welfare (191.2 billion KRW), transportation and logistics (113.4 billion KRW), industry, small and medium enterprises, and energy (59.3 billion KRW), and education (60.4 billion KRW).
The 3rd plenary session will be held at 10 a.m. on May 2nd to process the agenda items that have passed the review by each standing committee and conclude the 308th extraordinary session.
