LG Electronics recently conducted appointments for 18 Research Fellows and 8 Specialist Fellows for 2024 and held an inauguration ceremony at LG Science Park in Magok, Gangseo-gu, Seoul. The Research Fellow and Specialist Fellow system is operated by LG Electronics to present career visions in various specialized fields and to nurture core talents. They receive executive-level treatment and compensation, allowing them to focus on their respective fields.
At the inauguration ceremony, Ju-wan Cho, CEO of LG Electronics, presented appointment plaques and bouquets to the newly appointed Research and Specialist Fellows, stating, "Being a Research or Specialist Fellow means being recognized as a top expert in each field at LG Electronics," and urged them to take the lead in securing future competitiveness and transforming LG Electronics into a high-performance organization.
This year, more than half of the Research Fellows, 10 in total, were selected from the software (SW) field. Dr. Gun-tae Bae (44), working at the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute under the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) division, became the youngest Research Fellow this year. Among the Specialist Fellows, talents with expertise in various fields such as supply chain management (SCM), patent analysis, quality, design, and customer experience were selected. Sung-won Shin (44), who is responsible for discovering business opportunities based on future lifestyles at the LSR Customer Research Institute under the CX Center, was appointed as the youngest Specialist Fellow in history.
Since 2009, LG Electronics has selected Research Fellows and Specialist Fellows annually, considering the importance of job expertise, performance, and capabilities. Including those selected this year, there are about 230 Research and Specialist Fellows at LG Electronics. Research Fellows are selected with a focus on core technology capabilities for future preparation, while Specialist Fellows are evaluated primarily on their expertise to lead company-wide projects beyond their affiliated organizations. The proportion of Research and Specialist Fellows by job category is about 1% of the total.
