Yangjaecheon, an Ecological Stream Certified by Global Environmental Awards Including the Green Apple Awards Gold and Green World Awards Silver, Operates a Full-Body Stream Ecology Experience Program... Recruitment Starts April 20
Various Activities Including Expert Ecological Guide Explanations, Feeding Ducks and Carp, and Plant Experiences
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) is recruiting participants for the children's environmental program "2024 Yangjaecheon Cheoncheon Tour," which allows participants to fully experience and feel the ecological stream in the city, starting from April 20.
The Yangjaecheon Cheoncheon Tour means "a tour to slowly enjoy the stream." It is an environmental education program prepared by Seocho-gu to help people escape from their busy daily lives, enjoy nature for a moment at the nearby Yangjaecheon, and realize the importance of stream conservation.
The Cheoncheon Tour, which has continuously received high interest and positive reviews from participants, won the Gold Award at the 2023 Green Apple Awards and the Silver Award at the 2024 Green World Awards, establishing itself as Seocho-gu’s representative environmental program recognized worldwide.
Starting from May 1, this program begins with a ride on a 14-seat electric shuttle car along Yangjaecheon. Participants learn about various animals and plants living in Yangjaecheon with an ecological experience expert guide, and can enjoy various hands-on activities such as feeding ducks and carp and plant experiences. Additionally, opportunities are provided to practice stream purification activities, including visiting water purification facilities, releasing loaches, and making and throwing EM soil balls.
In particular, the raft experience, which is hard to find elsewhere, is the flagship program of the Yangjaecheon Cheoncheon Tour. Along with this, a loach release event is held while riding the raft to help with environmental purification, offering children a unique experience and memorable moments.
Mr. Kim, who participated in the 2023 Yangjaecheon Cheoncheon Tour, said, "I went twice last year and definitely want to join again this year. The kids loved riding the raft and the cart, and the instructors kindly taught us about the animals and plants living in the stream, making it a very beneficial time. I hope there will be more programs like this."
The Yangjaecheon Cheoncheon Tour is free of charge and runs daily until October, twice a day (10 a.m. and 2 p.m.), with each session lasting about 90 minutes. It is designed for children aged 5 and older and their parents, with about 20 participants per session.
Applications can be made through the Seoul Public Service Reservation System starting from the 20th of the previous month. For more details, please visit the Seocho-gu Office website or contact the Water Management Division.
Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, stated, "The Yangjaecheon Cheoncheon Tour is a great opportunity for children accustomed to urban life to become familiar with nature," and added, "I hope this program will be a valuable experience that helps participants understand the importance of the environment."
