Avoid Using Disposable Products at Events
Next Candidates Include Jin Gyo-hoon, Mayor of Gangseo-gu
Kim Mi-kyung, the mayor of Eunpyeong District, announced on the 19th that she has joined the ‘Bye Bye Plastic’ challenge hosted by the Ministry of Environment.
This challenge is a nationwide campaign to reduce plastic use, where participants pledge to reduce unnecessary plastic usage on social networking services (SNS), encourage others by posting about it, and then nominate the next participants.
During the event, Mayor Kim Mi-kyung promised to avoid single-use products, not to purchase excessively packaged items, and to refuse unnecessary plastics when ordering delivery. She joined the challenge after being nominated by Lee Soon-hee, the mayor of Gangbuk District, and nominated Jin Gyo-hoon, the mayor of Gangseo District, Park Seung-won, the mayor of Gwangmyeong City, and Kim Bo-ra, the mayor of Anseong City, as the next participants.
Since 2022, Eunpyeong District has been leading the ‘Making Eunpyeong Free of Single-Use Products’ campaign. To establish a practical system, the district signed agreements with cafes around the government office and installed reusable cup collection machines inside the office building, creating an environment where employees and visitors can use reusable containers, which has received much praise.
In particular, to create a resource-circulating city with the participation of residents, the district operates the ▲recycling sorting system ‘Eunpyeong Green MoaMoa’, ▲‘AI Green MoaMoa’ for convenient recycling disposal, and runs the ▲‘111 Campaign’ to reduce waste by 100g per household per day, being recognized as a model case for carbon-neutral cities.
Mayor Kim Mi-kyung of Eunpyeong District stated, “The small but steady actions of each individual can come together to form a huge shield protecting the Earth and the environment,” and added, “Our employees will take the lead in reducing plastic use and creating an environment that encourages the use of reusable products.”
