Seattle Mayor Leads Large Economic Delegation to Visit Daejeon

Discussion on Expanding Economic Exchange with Mayor Lee Jang-woo

On the 19th, Daejeon City held a welcoming ceremony at the ICC Hotel Crystal Ballroom for Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell and an economic delegation visiting Daejeon to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their sister city relationship.

The economic delegation consisted of 68 political, business, and academic figures affiliated with global companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, T-Mobile, Evergreen, as well as the Washington State Legislature, Seattle-Tacoma Port Authority, Seattle Economic Development Corporation, University of Washington, and Washington State University.

Seattle is known as the "Second Silicon Valley" and the "Cloud Capital of the World," with companies like Google, Facebook, and Apple also maintaining offices there.

Lee Jang-woo, Mayor of Daejeon, said, "It seems that the friendship between Daejeon and Seattle has deepened through this visit," adding, "I hope this meeting between economic, scientific, and technological figures from both cities will serve as an opportunity to expand practical exchanges in the future." He also invited the Seattle mayor to the (tentatively named) World Economic Science City Alliance founding ceremony scheduled for September.

Mayor Bruce Harrell responded, "I am very pleased to visit the city of growth and innovation, Daejeon, again," and said, "Let us use this visit as an opportunity to further expand human resource exchanges of outstanding talents and cooperation in advanced industries between the two cities."

Daejeon and Seattle established their sister city cooperation relationship in 1989 and have maintained continuous exchanges. Daejeon has Seattle Park, and Seattle has Daejeon Park.
