Busan Office of Education Operates Nutrition Experience Classes Visiting Schools

Creating Experience Kits to Reduce Lesson Preparation Burden

Online Experiential Education Also Provided for Elementary Schools

Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yun-su) announced on the 19th that it will operate the "Nutrition Experience Classroom Visiting Schools" for about 2,500 students from 34 elementary, middle, high, and special schools in the district until the 30th of next month.

This experience classroom was prepared to cultivate healthy eating habits among students and to promote the excellence of our traditional food. The Busan Office of Education operates the experience classrooms divided into elementary schools, middle and high schools, and special schools.

To reduce the burden of lesson preparation at schools, the Office of Education produced and supports 5,000 "Traditional Gochujang Making Kits," which is a 38% increase from about 3,600 kits last year, containing ingredients and activity sheets for the experience.

The kit consists of ingredients such as red pepper powder, meju powder, solar salt, rice syrup, organic Sikhye, as well as containers, spoons, and aprons. Classes are conducted on-site using only the kit without any other preparations.

The activity sheets include information on the ingredients, origin, and nutrition of the traditional food gochujang, and participants experience the content by viewing learning materials through a QR code within the activity sheets.

This year, to activate nutrition and dietary education and establish a continuous support system for school curriculum operation, an online experience education program was also prepared. Education will be provided on the 22nd for 12 elementary schools.

Middle, high, and special schools will operate the experience classrooms until the end of next month, considering school conditions such as academic schedules.

An official from the Office of Education stated that this experience classroom is expected to play a role in expanding on-site experiential nutrition and dietary education by minimizing spatial and temporal learning constraints through standardized teaching materials and online classes.

Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "This experience classroom is an opportunity to promote the excellence of our traditional food and to inherit and develop traditional food culture," adding, "Through experiential activities with friends, students will also be able to develop community capabilities of consideration and cooperation."
