A man in his 60s who killed a debtor after arguing over repayment of a loan has been brought to trial in custody.
The Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Seo Won-ik) announced on the 19th that Mr. A was indicted in custody on charges of murdering a woman in her 60s, Ms. B.
Mr. A is accused of strangling Ms. B to death during an argument on January 11 at a villa in Daerim-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, demanding repayment of 12 million won he had lent her five years earlier.
Ms. B was left dead for about 20 days until her daughter, unable to contact her mother on the 30th of the same month, found her at home and reported it to the police.
After receiving the case from the police on the 1st, the prosecution has been conducting a comprehensive supplementary investigation, including mobile phone forensics and inquiries into people around the victim.
The investigation revealed that Mr. A had no significant source of income and was living in financial hardship, borrowing money from acquaintances under the pretext of business funds to sustain his livelihood.
The prosecution stated, "We will do our best to maintain the prosecution so that the defendant receives a sentence commensurate with the crime," and added, "We will also ensure that there is no negligence in protecting and supporting the victim's bereaved family."
