Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Selected for 'Local Government Spatial Information Excellence Project' Competition
Chungnam Province is establishing a digital tidal flat map to preserve the tidal flats along the West Coast.
On the 19th, the province announced that it secured 58 million KRW in national funding after being selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Outstanding Local Government Spatial Information Project' contest.
The province proposed a digital tidal flat information construction project utilizing drones and artificial intelligence (AI) in the contest. Through this project, it plans to manage tidal flats and fishing grounds and build marine spatial information.
The province aims to complete the project targeting 20㎢ of Garorim Bay tidal flats by the end of this year and gradually expand the scope to cover the entire West Coast.
Im Taek-bin, Director of the Land Management Division, said, "This project is highly valuable for utilization as research data to preserve the West Coast tidal flats, which are registered as a World Natural Heritage site," adding, "By accumulating marine information, we will be able to identify risk factors in advance and reduce safety accidents."
