Shinan-gun Co-hosts the Global Gimbap Festival 'K-Gimbap World Cup'

Collaboration with Emart24... Gimbap Contest Finals and Various Experience Events Held

Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do will hold the ‘2024 Shinan World Gimbap Festa’ along with the ‘K-Gimbap World Cup’ at Jaeundo Museum Park for two days from the 27th to the 28th.

According to the county on the 19th, 20 teams were selected to advance to the finals after preliminary rounds held on the 12th with participants from across the country.

This event is being prepared in partnership with Emart24 to make it even more abundant, and the award-winning gimbap from the 20 finalist teams will be made into convenience store gimbap and sold at over 6,600 stores nationwide, allowing the entire nation to taste Shinan gimbap.

Additionally, six types of gimbap such as Hong-eo Katsu Gimbap, Salt Gimbap, Garden Gimbap, and Sea Gimbap have been independently developed using ingredients produced in Shinan like seaweed, abalone, skate, seaweed (tot), green onions, and onions. These will be sold at reasonable prices ranging from 2,000 to 7,000 KRW during the event period.

Event programs include ‘You Become My Apprentice’ with Master Chef An Yuseong, the Live Shinan Gimbap Lab where gimbap is made on the spot by randomly selecting ingredients from Shinan’s abundant produce, and various food shows such as the search for the world’s best rice sommelier.

The Gimbap Festa held on the beach of Jaeundo will operate a picnic garden, a gimbap-making experience zone, and a children’s playground, and will provide 2,000 prizes including Shinan rice, peanut gangjeong, and dried tot to all participating tourists on a first-come, first-served basis.

Also, the ‘100+4 Piano Island Festival’ will be held simultaneously in the event area, allowing visitors to enjoy two festivals at the same time.

County Governor Park Wuryang stated, “Our county is the number one place for gimbap with excellent agricultural and marine products, and we will support farmers and fishermen through promoting rice consumption via the Gimbap Festa.” He added, “We are determined to make the Shinan Gimbap Festa a gourmet festival that captivates the taste buds of people worldwide.”
