Guro-gu Completes Resident Participation Budget Project 'Installation of Insect Traps and Insect Repellent Sprayers'

Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) announced on the 19th that it has completed the installation of insect traps and insect repellent sprayers as part of the 2024 resident participation budget for neighborhood community projects.

The insect traps were installed around the circular plaza of Gung-dong Ecological Park, a project proposed and promoted by the Sugung-dong Residents' Autonomous Committee.

The Sugung-dong Residents' Autonomous Committee organizes free movie screenings for local residents every year from May to September, but they had to endure discomfort due to the concentration of mosquitoes, mayflies, and other insects during these events.

In response, the Sugung-dong Residents' Autonomous Committee proposed installing insect traps that attract and eliminate pests using ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (UV LED) at sunset. These insect traps are eco-friendly pest control devices that lure insects with light by connecting to street lamps, without using insecticides.

Insect repellent sprayers were installed at one location each in Gocheok 1-dong Ogeum Children's Park and the Anyangcheon entrance road at the intersection in front of Dongyang Mirae University.

These two locations are frequently used paths by residents for walking, and with the insect repellent sprayers that can block insect access for 3 to 4 hours, it is expected that people will be able to enjoy outdoor activities in a safer and more comfortable environment.

The district plans to operate the insect traps and insect repellent sprayers from April to November, while also thoroughly maintaining and inspecting the 11 existing insect repellent sprayers already installed.

Moon Heon-il, Mayor of Guro-gu, said, “Simply spraying insect repellent on clothes and shoes can prevent insects for a certain period,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to prevent infectious diseases among residents and create a pleasant living environment.”
