The appointment ceremony was held at 4:50 PM on the 18th in the City Hall Protocol Room, and the new CEO’s term will be two years starting from the appointment date, April 18, 2024.

CEO Cha previously served as the head of the Regional Culture Promotion Agency, CEO of the Pohang Cultural Foundation, Director of the Culture and Arts Headquarters at the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, and Director of the Arts Promotion Office at the Busan Cultural Foundation. He is an expert in central and local cultural and arts policies, having also served as co-chair of the Regional Culture Cooperation Committee under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, participating in the formulation and implementation of government cultural policies.

Notably, during his tenure as CEO of the Pohang Cultural Foundation, he achieved remarkable results such as securing national funding by designating Pohang, known as a steel city, as a ‘Legal Cultural City’ designated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. He was also recognized for raising the quality of local culture and arts by promoting various cultural projects centered on local artists and citizens.

CEO Cha stated, “Busan is scheduled to open large-scale performance venues such as the Opera House and the International Art Center one after another. The Busan Cultural Center faces the dual challenge of establishing a distinctive identity that differentiates it from these large venues and responding to the high cultural demand of citizens. Although this responsibility is immense, I will do my utmost to fulfill my role so that both the Cultural Center and the Citizens’ Hall can grow to the next level.”

Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “Cities where culture and arts flow naturally attract people. I hope that the Busan Cultural Center will attract high-quality performances that meet the rising expectations of citizens and provide more opportunities for local creative artists, so that it can become a representative cultural and artistic hub in Busan, bustling with many citizens.”
