"Samsung Electronics Stock Soars Amid AI Boom"

Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong has taken the top spot on the list of Korea's richest people selected by the American economic magazine Forbes. This is the first time Chairman Lee has ranked first.
Forbes released the '2024 Korea's Top 50 Wealthiest' list on the 17th (local time), naming Chairman Lee as number one. His estimated net worth is $11.5 billion (15.8 trillion KRW).
The publication explained the reason for selecting Chairman Lee as number one, stating, "The AI boom has driven up the stock price of Samsung Group's core and the world's largest memory chip manufacturer, Samsung Electronics."
Following him in the top 10 are ▲ Kim Byung-joo, Chairman of MBK Partners ($9.7 billion) ▲ Seo Jung-jin, Chairman of Celltrion Group ($7.5 billion) ▲ Cho Jung-ho, Chairman of Meritz Financial Group ($6.2 billion) ▲ Chung Mong-koo, Honorary Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group ($4.6 billion) ▲ Kim Beom-su, Founder of Kakao ($4.5 billion) ▲ Hong Ra-hee, Former Director of Samsung Museum of Art Leeum ($4.4 billion) ▲ Kwak Dong-shin, Vice Chairman and CEO of Hanmi Semiconductor ($3.9 billion) ▲ Kwon Hyuk-bin, Founder of Smilegate Group ($3.5 billion) ▲ Chung Eui-sun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group ($3.4 billion).
Forbes reported, "Although Korea's KOSPI index was the worst performer in Asia last year, it rebounded significantly this year thanks to the AI investment boom and government initiatives," adding, "The KOSPI has risen 11% since the last measurement of Korean wealth holders' assets last year, and the total wealth has also increased substantially." The total wealth of Korea's top 50 wealthiest individuals has increased from 145.6 trillion KRW last year to approximately 158 trillion KRW this year.
