Yeosu City Launches 'Carbon Neutrality Support Center'

Opening of Center at Chonnam National University Boosts Momentum for Carbon Neutrality Realization

Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) strengthened its efforts to achieve '2050 Carbon Neutrality' by launching the Carbon Neutrality Support Center within Chonnam National University (Yeosu) on the 18th.


The 'Yeosu City Carbon Neutrality Support Center' was designated to Chonnam National University (Yeosu) through a public contest last October. It is a specialized organization supporting Yeosu City's transition to a carbon-neutral society and promoting green growth until 2026.

▲ It will carry out tasks such as supporting the establishment and implementation of comprehensive carbon neutrality plans, promoting energy transition and developing and spreading transition models, and conducting research and surveys related to carbon neutrality.


About 100 people attended the opening ceremony, including Jeong Gi-myeong, Mayor of Yeosu, Kim Young-gyu, Chairman of Yeosu City Council, Lee Jeong-sik, Vice President of Chonnam National University, heads of carbon neutrality support centers in the province, and citizens.


Especially, after the plaque ceremony, to commemorate the official launch of the center, Kim Jeong-in, former subcommittee chairman of the '2050 Carbon Neutral Green Growth Committee,' gave a special lecture on the theme of 'The Role of the Region in Creating Carbon Neutral Cities and Hosting COP.'


Lee Jeong-sik, Vice President of Chonnam National University, said, “I expect the Yeosu City Carbon Neutrality Support Center to firmly establish itself as a platform for developing various policies to save the region in the era of climate crisis and for cooperation among stakeholders, playing a key role in making Yeosu City a model carbon-neutral city.”


Jeong Gi-myeong, Mayor of Yeosu City, stated, “Yeosu City has taken the lead in realizing 2050 carbon neutrality by setting 'Leading City in Climate Change Response' as the administrative policy of the 8th elected term. We will spare no financial and administrative support so that the Yeosu City Carbon Neutrality Support Center can play a leading role in implementing carbon neutrality.”
