The National Research Council of Science & Technology (Chairman Kim Bok-cheol, hereinafter NST) announced that it held a Korea-Germany science and technology cooperation event over two days on April 18 and 19.
This event was organized to further strengthen science and technology cooperation between government-funded research institutes under NST and Helmholtz Association-affiliated research institutes, coinciding with the visit of the delegation from the Helmholtz Association, one of Germany's four major research organizations, to Korea.
The German delegation was led by Prof. Otmar D. Wiestler, President of the Helmholtz Association, and consisted of five heads of prominent German research institutions and research group leaders.
On the 18th, a Korea-Germany science and technology research institute heads meeting was held at KIST, and on the 19th, a joint workshop on energy and future computing was held between Forschungszentrum J?lich (hereinafter FZJ) in Germany and Korean government-funded research institutes at the Korea Institute of Energy Research and the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science. FZJ is the largest comprehensive research center under the Helmholtz Association and is internationally renowned for research in energy, information, and bioeconomy fields.
Chairman Kim Bok-cheol stated, “I hope that this visit by the German Helmholtz delegation will lead to more active research cooperation between government-funded research institutes and excellent German research organizations.”
Prof. Otmar Wiestler, President of the Helmholtz Association, said, “Through this visit, I was able to experience Korea’s outstanding R&D capabilities in various science and technology fields such as bio and energy, and I hope that cooperation between Helmholtz research institutes and Korean government-funded research institutes will be promoted in the future.”
