The 1 Million Special City Preparation Committee is a gathering composed of citizen representatives from each eup, myeon, and dong. Since the regular meeting in March, they have been discussing the necessity of establishing district offices and the main administrative directions for building a metropolitan administrative system for a city with a population of one million.
Chairman Park conveyed to Mayor Jeong on the day, "We will actively cooperate in the establishment of four district offices in Hwaseong City and continuously communicate with the city to create a unified voice of the citizens."
Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun said, "Despite Hwaseong being a city with a population of one million, there are no district offices, causing a mismatch between living areas and administrative units. Residents endure inconvenience in their daily lives by traveling long distances," and added, "I hope the committee will actively cooperate in the establishment of general districts so that the one million citizens of Hwaseong can raise a unified voice and reach a citizen consensus."
The establishment of district offices must consider various factors such as ▲administrative demand ▲resident convenience ▲regional balanced development. The city is preparing alternatives through reviewing administrative system reforms and research projects, and plans to make every effort to establish four district offices this year ahead of the launch of the special city next year.
To this end, the city plans to meet with the elected members of the 22nd National Assembly constituencies and city and provincial councilors to request support, and after a citizen opinion collection process, prepare a resident consensus plan to formally apply for the establishment of district offices to Gyeonggi Province and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety within the year.
