CU's premium dessert 'ㅇㄱㄹㅇ ㅂㅂㅂㄱ', which name is hard to figure out how to read, has returned after 6 years. When it was first released in 2018, it sold 1 million units in just 3 months and boosted CU's dessert category sales by more than three times.

The products re-released by CU this time are two types: 'ㅇㅇㄱㄹ ㅂㅂㅂㄱ (Igeoreal Banbakbulga)' chocolate fresh cream cake and its sequel 'ㅇㅈ? ㅇㅇㅈ (Injeong? Eoinjeong)' cookie and cream cake. Not only the product names but also the taste and weight (190g) were exactly replicated from 6 years ago.

As popular products, they are not easy to find. The 'ㅇㅇㄱㄹ ㅂㅂㅂㄱ' was only available at the fifth convenience store in Jung-gu, Seoul, after some searching. The 'ㅇㅈ? ㅇㅇㅈ' was first encountered in physical form only at the fourth convenience store. Store owners hinted that these products sell out immediately upon arrival, and many customers inquire about stock even after they are sold out.

CU describes the centerpiece of this lineup, 'ㅇㅇㄱㄹ ㅂㅂㅂㄱ', as a 'chocolate fresh cream cake,' but you can think of it as a 'tiramisu' commonly found at coffee shops. Although there are slight variations, the basic taste is that of tiramisu itself.

The product consists of a chocolate cake topped with fresh cream, and cocoa powder sprinkled on top. The first spoonful gave the impression of a 'taste that students would like.' The sweetness is not very strong but moderately sweet. It was very similar to the taste of melting a Choco Pie in the microwave during military service when craving something sweet. Of course, it was not as sweet as melted Choco Pie.

Because of the cocoa sprinkled on the fresh cream, eating just the cream feels like drinking cocoa mixed with milk. The sweetness made it pair well with coffee. I tried it with both iced and hot Americano, and personally, the hot Americano washed away the product’s sweetness well, making the second spoonful feel less heavy.

The container design of 'ㅇㅇㄱㄹ ㅂㅂㅂㄱ' is also praiseworthy. When ordering tiramisu at a coffee shop, it comes plated on a dish, and because tiramisu is moist, it is not easy to eat without spilling outside the plate. However, 'ㅇㅇㄱㄹ ㅂㅂㅂㄱ' has a somewhat rough but concave container, making it easier to scoop and allowing you to eat a larger amount at once.

It is a perfect match to enjoy outdoors with coffee on a nice day, but you should think twice before taking this product outside because it requires refrigeration. If you have a car, you can use an icebox to maintain freshness. Otherwise, it is recommended to eat it immediately after purchase. It is sold at CU convenience stores, and both types are priced at 3,300 won.
