Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province will conduct the '2024 Legal Measuring Instruments Regular Inspection' from May 9 to June 14 to ensure fairness in commerce and protect consumer life.
The regular inspection of measuring instruments is a statutory inspection conducted once every two years according to the 'Measurement Act,' and it is divided into 'Eup, Myeon, Dong Circuit Inspection' and 'Location-based Inspection.'
The Eup, Myeon, Dong Circuit Inspection will be conducted at each administrative welfare center until May 28. The location-based inspection, for cases where scales used for measurement are attached to land or buildings and are difficult to move, will be conducted for applicants from May 30 to June 14 for nine days.
The measuring instruments subject to inspection include electric indicator scales under 10 tons, dial scales, plate indicator scales, and dial plate scales used in businesses such as jewelry stores, butcher shops, large retail stores, fish markets, rice shops, fruit and vegetable stores, restaurants, supermarkets, hardware stores, traditional markets, agricultural and fishery cooperative wholesale markets, regular cargo handling stations, and convenience stores (parcel delivery), all of which are used in commerce.
Measuring instruments that fail the inspection must be repaired and re-inspected before use is resumed, and businesses using measuring instruments without undergoing the regular inspection will be fined up to 2 million KRW. The city is conducting a full survey of measuring instruments subject to inspection to ensure smooth progress of the inspection.
