40s Man Stealing Bicycles and Neighbor's Parcels
Arrested After Police SWAT Team Additional Deployment
A woman in her 40s who stole dozens of neighbors' delivery packages caused a commotion by threatening police officers who arrived at the scene, saying she would "set fire and die," before eventually being apprehended.
On the 18th, the Osan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that they had arrested and were investigating a woman in her 40s, identified as A, on charges of habitual theft. A is suspected of stealing about 30 delivery items, including food, daily necessities, and bicycles, from neighbors at an officetel in Osan City where she had been living until the 15th.
After receiving reports from about 10 officetel residents since the end of last month, the police identified A as the thief through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage. Subsequently, the police dispatched officers to A's residence around 2 p.m. on the 17th. However, upon seeing the police, A locked the front door and caused a disturbance, saying, "If you come in, I will set fire and die."
The officers confirmed through the door gap that A was attempting to set fire to a delivery box and was sitting on the railing of the 14th-floor window. In response, the police deployed an additional special operations team of seven members. Some officers entered through the window by descending ropes from the rooftop, while others broke down the front door to enter, working together to urgently arrest A.
The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant soon after conducting a detailed investigation into the incident with A.
