Three More Schools Added Reflecting New Industries Following Last Year
The Ministry of Education plans to newly designate around three Meister high schools in the advanced industry sector this year.
On the 18th, the Ministry of Education announced that following the designation of three Meister high schools last year, it will newly designate schools focusing on advanced industry sectors including semiconductors, digital technology, and advanced parts and materials this year as well.
Previously, in August last year, the Ministry of Education announced plans to foster 65 Meister high schools by 2027. Currently, 57 schools have been designated, and 54 are in operation. Three schools that have not yet opened were designated last year and will open in 2025.
When newly designated as a Meister high school, the school receives a total of 5 billion KRW in start-up preparation funds over two years, along with support from experts for curriculum development and operation consultation. The designated schools will go through a preparation period and open as Meister high schools in March 2026.
To be designated as a Meister high school, the school or its foundation must apply to the provincial superintendent of education. Then, the education office requests the Ministry of Education’s consent for designation. After going through the Ministry’s consent process by September this year, the education office will make the final designation of the Meister high school.
Choi Chang-ik, Director of Lifelong Vocational Education Policy at the Ministry of Education, stated, "As the demand for talent in new industries and new technologies continues to increase, we will make special efforts to ensure that Meister high schools can nurture skilled high school graduates as a leading model of secondary vocational education."
