Selected for Community Activity Support Project Competition
Busan Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) has been selected for the single-person household community activity support project and will operate customized programs for middle-aged individuals.
This project, hosted by Busan City, aims to support community activities tailored to the life cycle and regional characteristics of the target groups to help form social networks for the increasing number of single-person households.
With the selection for the project, Gijang-gun has secured 11.5 million KRW in city funds and plans to operate customized support programs for single-person households in their 40s and 50s.
To enhance the self-reliance and social interaction of middle-aged single-person households, various programs will be offered from May to November, including therapy, cooking classes, organizing and storage, and home repair education.
Jeong Jong-bok, Governor of Gijang-gun, stated, “We plan to implement various policies to improve the quality of life for residents living alone,” adding, “We will discover customized projects to promote welfare and prevent social isolation.”
There are 21,332 single-person households in Gijang-gun, of which 6,769 households (31.7%) are middle-aged single-person households in their 40s and 50s. This group ranks second after elderly single-person households (41%) and is steadily increasing.
Accordingly, in November 2022, the county formed Busan’s first dedicated team for single-person households and is actively promoting support projects to enhance social interaction and self-care capabilities for these residents.
