Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Hee-young) will sponsor the ‘44th Yongsan-gu Disabled Persons Day Commemoration Event’ at 2 p.m. on the 26th at Yongsan Art Hall Garam.
This commemorative event is hosted by the ‘Yongsan-gu Disabled Welfare Organizations Council’ and supported by Yongsan-gu, SPC, and Korea Open Cyber University.
The district sponsors the annual commemorative event to improve awareness of disabilities and encourage the rehabilitation motivation of disabled persons. This year, instead of a ceremony-focused event, it has been prepared as a cultural event where disabled and non-disabled residents of Yongsan-gu can enjoy together.
The main events include ▲an art exhibition by painters with developmental disabilities ▲Part 1: commemorative ceremony and congratulatory performances ▲Part 2: talent show and invited singer performances.
On the day of the event, works by painters with developmental disabilities, which were previously exhibited at Yongsan Art Hall last year, will be showcased again in an encore exhibition. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a refreshing cup of coffee made free of charge by disabled baristas.
The commemorative ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. with a pre-performance by the Cheongpa-dong Resident Autonomy Program’s Nanta performance team. The program includes ▲national anthem ▲reading of the Disabled Persons Human Rights Charter ▲commendations for contributions to disabled welfare. In particular, the performance by the disabled choir ‘Sound of Love Choir,’ which has honed their skills over the past year, is highly anticipated.
Part 2 is a cultural event featuring performances by invited singers along with singing and talent contests by disabled residents. The excitement is already building over who will be lucky enough to win first place. After the event, small souvenirs and snacks will be provided.
Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “On this early spring day, I hope all Yongsan-gu residents will put down ‘discrimination’ and understand ‘difference.’ We will continue to take the lead in ensuring that there are no inconveniences caused by disabilities with even more careful attention.”
