Daeyang Enbio, a subsidiary of Hanseong Cleantec, announced on the 18th that it has been selected for the "2024 Small and Medium Environmental Enterprise Commercialization Support Project" (Green New Industry sector, ultrapure water field) supported by the Ministry of Environment.
The Small and Medium Environmental Enterprise Commercialization Support Project is a Ministry of Environment-supported initiative worth a total of 26.4 billion KRW, aimed at increasing the success rate of technology commercialization for environmental companies with excellent technology and expanding the dissemination of environmental technology in industrial sites.
Daeyang Enbio will invest a total of 860 million KRW, including 600 million KRW in support over two years and an additional 260 million KRW from its own budget, to develop and commercialize customized technology that replaces activated carbon, the primary core in the ultrapure water production process that removes various pollutants, with bamboo-based activated carbon to produce high-quality ultrapure water. Hanseong Cleantec will be responsible for applying the technology to ultrapure water and major demand sites.
In this regard, Vietnamese company Greener Future, Hanseong Cleantec, and Daeyang Enbio signed a joint memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Hanoi on February 23.
Activated carbon is a special adsorbent widely used in industrial fields to remove impurities and various pollutants. It is especially utilized in various forms in industries such as water purification and air purification filters. Traditionally, activated carbon (similar to charcoal) has been produced by activating raw materials such as coconut shells and coal (bituminous coal), and the entire supply has depended on imports. In July of last year, activated carbon was designated as an emergency supply control material.
Kim Hwang-rae, CEO of Daeyang Enbio, stated, “The activated carbon technology using bamboo has already been secured at the laboratory scale,” and added, “Now that we have received national funding, we will accelerate the project through demonstration research.”
Meanwhile, Daeyang Enbio recorded sales of 41.5 billion KRW last year and is expanding from operating water supply and sewage facilities to managing industrial water treatment facilities and material businesses.
