April 20 Earth Day Commemoration Event at Siheung Geobukseom

Gyeonggi Province will hold an Earth Day event on the 20th at Turtle Island in Siwha Lake.


On the 18th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will jointly hold the Earth Day event on that day at Turtle Island in Siheung City to mark the "2nd Gyeonggi Province Climate Change Week" (April 17-23) with Siheung City and the Gyeonggi Environment and Energy Promotion Agency.


The event will be held under the slogan "Big Wave of Climate Action: Speak Now, Act Immediately," aiming to raise awareness among residents about the seriousness of the climate crisis and encourage immediate climate action.


In particular, this event is held at Turtle Island in Siwha Lake to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the completion of the Siwha Embankment construction.



April 20 Earth Day Commemoration Event at Siheung Geobukseom Gyeonggi Province will hold an Earth Day commemorative event on the 20th at Siwha Turtle Island.

Once known as a "lake of death" due to severe water pollution, Siwha Lake overcame water pollution through 20 years of efforts and achieved ecological restoration. The event will share this experience and deliver a message of overcoming the climate crisis to residents.


The event will begin with an opening ceremony in the morning, followed by three sessions: ▲ Humans, Ecology, Earth ▲ Climate Action: No Time Like Now ▲ Climate Tech as a Game Changer.


Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate Environment and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, "In the current era of a global climate crisis, Gyeonggi Province is implementing leading policies to respond to the climate crisis," adding, "We hope that the experience of Siwha Lake, achieved together with residents, will spread throughout South Korea through the Earth Day commemorative event."
