Melania Trump, wife of former U.S. President Donald Trump, is reportedly feeling wronged in the trial related to her husband's sex scandal, according to close associates.
The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 16th (local time), citing a close aide to the former presidential couple, that Melania views the so-called 'hush money' trial as a 'shame' (a dishonor to the court) amounting to election interference. On the same day, multiple other sources also reported that Melania feels wronged by the current trial.
The previous day, the criminal trial of former President Trump began at the New York Manhattan District Court on charges related to the hush money in the sex scandal. Just before the 2016 presidential election, Trump is accused of paying 'hush money' through his personal lawyer Michael Cohen to prevent the disclosure of a past sexual relationship with former adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Additionally, he faces a total of 34 charges, including allegations of falsifying company records related to the hush money. He was indicted in March last year.
Before entering the courtroom the previous day, former President Trump told reporters, "This is a political prosecution," and claimed it was "an attack on America and its political opponents."
The NYT reported that when the related news first emerged in 2018, Melania was angry but drew a clear line by stating it was "former President Trump's problem," not hers. However, as the election approached, sources said Melania began treating this case as one of the various judicial risks her husband faces.
