Yeosu City to Provide 500,000 KRW Pregnancy Celebration Allowance

Integrated Pregnancy Support Fund 'Seomseom Yeosu Happy 40 Weeks'

Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it will provide a pregnancy congratulatory fund of 500,000 KRW to create a celebratory atmosphere for pregnancy and alleviate the financial burden associated with pregnancy.

According to the city, support related to pregnancy has so far included pregnancy confirmation expenses, transportation costs for pregnant women, congenital anomaly screening fees, and congratulatory gifts for childbirth families, totaling about 290,000 KRW. However, these will be integrated and expanded under the ‘Seomseom Yeosu Happy 40 Weeks’ support project.

The ‘Seomseom Yeosu Happy 40 Weeks’ support targets pregnant women who have been registered residents of Yeosu City for more than six months prior to the application date and are currently residing there, and whose pregnancy confirmation date on the pregnancy and childbirth medical expense payment application form is on or after January 1, 2024.

The support fund of 500,000 KRW is paid once per person per year, and those wishing to apply can visit the Yeosu City Health Center or the Jungbu Health Branch Office to apply.

The application period is from the date of issuance of the pregnancy and childbirth medical expense payment application form until before delivery. Pregnant women who have already given birth are excluded from eligibility, so caution is advised.

Seo Hyun-sook, Director of Health Promotion Division, said, “This project is expected to increase satisfaction among pregnant women by integrating existing projects, expanding support funds through lump-sum support, and simplifying paperwork,” adding, “We will continue to proactively respond to pregnancy and low birthrate issues.”

Meanwhile, Yeosu City is taking the lead in creating a happy pregnancy and childbirth environment by strengthening support policies such as expanding childbirth support funds and establishing breastfeeding management expenses in addition to the pregnancy congratulatory fund.
