Sonid Defense Korea Designated as a Recommended Item for Ministry of National Defense's Excellent Commercial Products Demonstration Use for Recoilless Water Cannon

Sonid subsidiary Defense Korea (CEO Oh Jung-geon) announced on the 17th that its recoilless water cannon has been selected as a recommended item for the Excellent Commercial Products Pilot Use Program, opening the way to supply it to the Ministry of National Defense.

The Ministry of National Defense's 'Excellent Commercial Products Pilot Use Program' is a system that adopts a use-first, decide-later approach, introducing high-satisfaction civilian excellent products in a timely manner to improve the quality of military supplies and reduce budgets, while supporting market access for small and medium-sized enterprises wishing to supply the military.

Recommended items for the Excellent Commercial Products Pilot Use Program are selected based on evaluation results including document review, face-to-face assessment, and on-site inspection, tailored to the needs of each military branch. Upon selection, purchase contracts can be signed between military units and participating companies.

The KD-101 developed by Defense Korea is a recoilless water cannon that achieves a recoil absorption rate of 99%. It passed the performance test conducted by the Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL) in August 2022 and obtained national certification. In addition to its excellent recoil absorption rate, the KD-101 offers great convenience. It features a NATO-standard Picatinny rail mount, allowing the attachment of various accessories such as optical sights, laser pointers, and cameras, and can be mounted on commercial tripods, drones, explosive ordnance disposal robots, and other solutions for versatile operation.

A Defense Korea official stated, “Currently, foreign-made recoilless water cannons are mainly supplied to the military, so our recoilless water cannon is expected to greatly contribute to the localization of military equipment,” adding, “We will strengthen business with the government, public institutions, and the military in the future to expand sales.”
