Integrated Reading Education Combining Reading, Sharing Thoughts, and Writing
Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yun-su) announced on the 17th that it will operate the "Happy Writing with Authors" project targeting 40 elementary schools and 159 classes until December to realize happy reading education and spread reading culture.
This project, which involves communicating with authors, reading books together, sharing thoughts, and writing, aims to realize integrated reading education through writing.
The Office of Education is promoting the project by having 58 children's literature authors affiliated with the Busan Children's Literature Association visit schools.
The authors conduct classes of 80 minutes per session, twice per visit, reading books together, sharing opinions, and engaging in discussions to cultivate students' thinking skills.
Students develop various writing skills by expressing the shared opinions collaboratively with their friends in writing.
An official from the Office of Education stated that this participatory and experiential reading, humanities, and writing (creative) education is expected to be an opportunity to strengthen students' holistic growth as well as reading humanities education.
Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "Elementary school is a very important period not only for academic ability but also for developing reading and writing education that enhances thinking ability, comprehension, and logical reasoning," adding, "The Office of Education will do its best to support students' happy writing through integrated reading education that involves reading books, sharing thoughts, and expressing them in writing."
