A reference monitor is equipment used on film or broadcast production sites to check the completeness of the filmed footage or to adjust color tones and images according to the content concept. It requires a high-performance display capable of accurately reproducing the original video in terms of color accuracy, reproduction, black expression, and luminance.
Existing reference monitors mainly adopted high-spec liquid crystal displays (LCDs). However, as self-emissive technologies such as QD-OLED have established themselves as premium technologies in the large display market, interest in these technologies is increasing in the reference monitor market as well.
FSI, a leading brand in the broadcasting equipment market, introduced QD-OLED to the broadcast monitor market for the first time last year with a 55-inch QD-OLED product, and this year also unveiled new 31.5-inch and 65-inch QD-OLED monitors. SmallHD, which produces field monitors for broadcasting sites, also showcased a high-end reference monitor applying Samsung Display’s 31.5-inch QD-OLED for the first time at this exhibition.
Jung Yong-wook, Vice President and Head of Strategy Marketing Team at Samsung Display’s Large Business Division, said, "QD-OLED, with industry-leading color expression capabilities, will provide the optimal solution for reference monitors that must faithfully reproduce the creator’s intent."
