Seocho-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeon Seong-su) held a lantern lighting ceremony at 6:30 PM on the 16th in the district office plaza to celebrate Buddha's Birthday on May 15, 2568 in the Buddhist calendar.

The lantern lighting ceremony, organized by the Korean Buddhist Seocho-gu Temple Association (President Monk Beop-an of Daeseongsa Temple), began with a Samulnori performance and a Buddhist hymn choir by the Guryongsa Choir, followed by the Three Refuges ritual, the Heart Sutra, a congratulatory song by the Gwanmunsa Choir, the lighting of the lantern tower, and the Fourfold Vows.

In particular, the Seocho-gu Temple Association has been continuously practicing warm sharing to help marginalized neighbors by donating 5 million won annually to support those in need through the lantern lighting event.

The lantern tower lit on this day is located in the Seocho-gu Office plaza and will remain illuminated for about 30 days until May 18.

Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, “I thank everyone who attended the lighting ceremony to celebrate Buddha's Birthday,” and added, “I hope you have a happier and warmer day than any other.”
