The Ministry of Justice has decided that 1,745 candidates have passed the 13th Bar Examination.
On the 16th, the Ministry of Justice announced that, after reviewing the opinions of the Bar Examination Management Committee, the Supreme Court, the Association of Law Schools, the Korean Bar Association, and other related organizations, the number of successful candidates for the 13th Bar Examination was set at 1,745 (with a total score of 896.02 points or higher).
The Ministry of Justice stated that the Bar Examination Management Committee, at the meeting held on November 1 last year, comprehensively considered the passing criteria of "around 1,730 candidates, taking into account the number of examinees and ties," the score distribution (gaps), and recent passing rates, and deliberated and resolved to set the number of successful candidates at 1,745.
The number of successful candidates for the Bar Examination has shown a slight increase over the past three years: 1,712 for the 11th exam (2022), 1,725 for the 12th exam (2023), and 1,745 for the 13th exam (2024).
The Ministry of Justice reported that the passing rate for 2024 graduates (based on the 13th class master's degree holders) was 75.65%, and the passing rate relative to the total admission quota of law schools (2,000 students) was 87.25%.
The final cumulative passing rate for examinees who have used all five attempts within five years after graduating from law school (master's degree holders) (based on classes 1 to 9) was 88.35%.
Among the successful candidates, 984 (56.39%) are male and 761 (43.61%) are female. Detailed statistical data such as scoring results will be posted on the Ministry of Justice website next month.
The Ministry of Justice stated, "The 14th Bar Examination is also being discussed by the 'Task Force for Improvement of Legal Professional Selection and Training,' which includes related organizations under the Bar Examination Management Committee. We will do our best to announce the appropriate number of successful candidates before the exam is conducted to ensure predictability and the right to know for examinees."
Meanwhile, prior to the announcement of the successful candidates on this day, the Korean Association of Law Professors issued a statement asserting that "the passing rate must be operated at over 75% for law school education to be conducted normally," and argued that "the passing rate should be increased by 5% annually for the next four years."
